Precipitated barium sulfate
Precipitated BaSO ₄
Reduction of insoluble barite (Baryte, natural BaSO ₄ ) produces highly soluble BaS.
BaSO₄+4C → BaS + 4CO
This solution is thoroughly purified to remove impurities such as quartz.
When the purified BaS solution is reacted with sodium sulfate solution, insoluble pure BaSO₄ is produced.
BaS + Na₂SO₄ → BaSO₄ + Na₂S
